What to watch on TV tonight: Friday

This is the telly everyone will be talking about tomorrow.

The Late Late Show (RTÉ One, 9.35pm)

Ryan Tubridy is back for the 57th series of The Late Late Show, and the first episode of the season will celebrate a successful summer of Irish sport. The Irish Senior Women’s Hockey Team will be on the show to discuss how they made history by reaching the World Cup final, Limerick Senior Hurling manager John Kiely and the team’s captain Declan Hannon will talk about their brilliant win this summer.

Gymnast Rhys McClenaghan will also be in for a chat, as well as hurdler Thomas Barr and swimmer Ellen Keane. After speaking to some of Ireland’s most promising and successful young sports stars, Ryan Tubridy will then have a chat with Piers Morgan.

Gogglebox (Channel 4, 9pm)

A brand new series of the fly-on-the-wall TV show that follows the same old families as they kick back, relax and criticise the week’s TV. Tonight they’ll be watching a range of comedy, drama, news and sports shows and offer their critiques on The X Factor, The Joy of AI, Bodyguard (the new BBC drama that Theresa May hates) and The Extreme Diet Hotel.

The Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup Live (RTÉ 2, 7.25pm)

Peter Collins, Alan Cawley and Alan Matthews present coverage of the quarter-final clash between Longford Town and Cork City. With kickoff at 7.45pm, the match will feature commentary from George Hamilton and Stuart Byrne.

Everybody’s talking about… Coleen Nolan’s decision to quit Loose Women.

After alllllll of the drama, Nolan’s team released a statement expressing that “It is with sad regret that Coleen is taking an immediate hiatus from all her current commitments including Loose Women and postponing her Never Too Late solo concert tour.”

  • Ancient Invisible Cities (BBC Two, 9pm) Michael Scott (not the guy from The Office, btw) employs the latest 3D-scanning technology and virtual reality to reveal the historical secrets of Cairo and Ancient Egypt.
  • Stan Lee’s Lucky Man (Sky One, 9pm) Last ever episode of the thriller starring James Nesbitt.
  • High Crimes (Virgin Media One, 9pm) Thriller in which a woman is distressed to learn that her husband has been accused of being a war criminal living under a false name, but recruits a lawyer to help her get to the bottom of the case.
  • The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice (Channel 4, 8pm) Jo Brand chats to a panel of celeb Bake Off fans, to discuss all of the goings-on from the tent. Rob Delaney, Prue Leith and Phil Wang are tonight’s guests.
